National Coal Mining Museum

A few weeks ago I was invited to join a group of ex-miners on a visit to the 'National Coal Mining Museum'. The majority of the group had previously worked at Sutton Manor Colliery, and they offered to talk to me about what it was like working there.

The museum is on the site of Caphouse Colliery, which ran from 1770's until its closure in 1985. The museum was opened in 1988 as 'The Yorkshire Mining Museum', and became a national museum in 1995.
